What a water softener fixes in Akron and Summit County
Hard water isn’t a health problem. It’s a money problem, and it shows up in three places.
Chalky white buildup
You see it on your faucets, your shower door, and every glass out of the dishwasher.
Appliances die young
It coats the inside of your water heater and your dishwasher. They wear out early.
Dry skin and dull laundry
Soap has to fight the water before it cleans anything, so you use more of it.
An honest softener, on standard parts
A softener takes the minerals out before the water gets to your taps, and the crust stops. We size it from your test and your house. The valves we sell are Fleck and Clack. They’re standard parts, so any good technician can work on them. That’s on purpose. You’re never locked to us. The tanks are on the whole-home systems page, and a Bedrock Care visit keeps the valve set right afterwards.
- Where we work — Summit County: Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Hudson, Tallmadge, Barberton, Twinsburg, Macedonia, Munroe Falls and Green. Also Portage, Medina, Lake and Geauga County.
- Sized from your water — every one from your own free water test, never a county average.
- Repair and service — any softener on a Fleck or Clack valve, whoever installed it. See softener repair and service in Akron.
- No salt at all? — we also sell a salt-free conditioner. We’ll tell you what it doesn’t do.
- Before any visit — five questions to ask before a quote.
- Wells are their own question — we publish what’s known and what isn’t about wells in Portage, Medina and Lake.

On Cleveland water, you may not need one
The utility itself says you don’t need a softener. We don’t sell against that, and we wrote up why we don’t sell softeners on Cleveland water.
“For residential customers, adding a whole-house water softener to your home's plumbing system isn’t necessary. In fact, it can cause your salt intake to increase significantly.”
Common questions
Is hard water a health problem?
No. It wrecks your fixtures and your appliances over time, and it does nothing to your health. We’ll never tell you otherwise. That’s the whole case for a softener.
What size softener do I need?
We size it from your test and from how many people live in your house. Never from a chart. Never from whatever happens to be on the truck.
What if I move in a few years?
The softener stays with the house, because it’s plumbed into it. It runs on a standard Fleck or Clack valve, so whoever lives here next can have anyone service it. We won’t tell you it raises your sale price, because nobody can prove that. You’re buying soft water for the years you’re here.
Do you service a softener you didn’t sell?
Yes, as long as it runs on a standard Fleck or Clack valve. On the Bedrock Care plan or as a single visit, quoted before we come out.
Who installs it?
Installed by a licensed professional.
