Towns
Every town we cover in Summit County
Towns here don’t all get their water from the same place. Find yours below.
Akron, OH
Water supplier: City of Akron Water Supply Bureau
Akron’s water is only moderately hard, so some homes here need a small softener and some need none.
Barberton, OH
Water supplier: City of Barberton
Barberton’s water is very hard and it swings through the year, so a softener here has to keep up.
Cuyahoga Falls, OH
Water supplier: City of Cuyahoga Falls
Cuyahoga Falls now reports softer water than it used to, so an old softener setting may be out of date.
Fairlawn, OH

Green, OH
Nobody publishes a hardness number for Green, so the only way to know yours is to measure it at your tap.
Hudson, OH
Hudson gets its water from more than one utility, so the first question is whose water reaches your street.

Summit County on Wikipedia lists its towns and how the county is run. If your house is on a well, Summit County Public Health has a page on private water systems.
Akron's plant isn't the only one here
Cuyahoga Falls pumps its own wells and runs its own plant, for itself, Munroe Falls and Silver Lake. Akron's water never reaches those taps, and the two plants don't start from the same water. So check the name on your bill. If it isn't Akron's, we read that utility's own yearly water report first.
Find your town before anyone sizes a softener
The white crust on your faucets is worse in some Summit towns than in others, so there’s no county-wide answer to give you. We keep a page for what each utility reports: Akron, Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls, Green, Hudson and Stow. And not every Summit address is on a city main: on a private well nobody reports on your water at all, so lab work comes before any talk of equipment. When the number is in, a softener sized for a Summit County home is the equipment page.
What we do about it in Summit County
Summit isn’t one water supply, so it doesn’t get one answer. What we do at your house depends on whose name is on your bill.
We check whose water
Cuyahoga Falls runs its own plant. Akron never touches those taps.
Carbon, not the fancy kind
Plain carbon handles the pool taste in Akron. Skip the pricier catalytic version.
No lead pitch here
Akron's old pipes are out. We won't sell you a filter for them.
Buildup depends on the town
Akron water runs moderate. Barberton runs very hard. Same county.
What fits
The systems Summit County homes usually need
Akron’s water is treated and it’s safe to drink, so nothing here’s sold on fear.

Standard Whole-Home Softener + Filtration
Handles the two things almost every home around here has going on at once.
- Free in-home water test
- Free installation

Summit County questions
Do you work in every part of Summit County?
Yes. We work in every city, village and township in Summit County. The full list is near the top of this page.
How do I book a visit in Summit County?
Fill in the form at the top of this page or call us. We set a time that suits you and confirm it.
Is the water test really free in Summit County?
Yes. The test is free, and you keep the numbers whether you buy anything or not.
Is Akron water safe to drink?
Yes. The city treats it, tests it, and publishes what it finds every year. What people call us about is the taste, not the safety.
Why does my water smell like a pool?
That smell is what keeps the water safe on the way to your house. By the time it reaches your kitchen it has done its job. Carbon takes it back out at the tap.
Do I need a lead filter in Akron?
Akron already replaced the old pipes from the street. So we won’t sell you one on that story. If the plumbing inside your own house worries you, say so, and the free test covers it.
My water bill isn’t from Akron. Now what?
Tell us whose name is on it. We look that utility up before the visit, and we read what it published. Then we test your own tap anyway.
Who installs it?
Installed by a licensed professional.

What Akron's own notice said
The city reported a problem, then fixed it. Here’s the record, and what carbon does about it.
Read the recordHow hard is it, really?
Akron, Barberton and Cuyahoga Falls each report something different. Yours depends on the town.
